The night from January 10 to 11, the capital’s mayor Ben Johnson spent a piece of cardboard on the sin of Street located in the central part of the city.
He tried on himself all the hardships of the life of people who do not have his own shelter. Another volunteer who did a similar act was Evgeny Lebedev. He is the owner of The Independent and The Eventing Standard Publishing House. It is this businessman who has the idea of raising funds for veterans who served in the UK army and deprived of beds.
Before spending the night on the street, they paid a visit to the shelter and found out that its inhabitants spent about two years on the street before they received blood. Some of them did not have a much longer period of time at home – from 20 to 40 years. One of the inhabitants of the shelter that Johnson and Lebedev met was a veteran of the Armed Forces of Great Britain. Now he is 84 years old. He took part in the battles in North Korea, which lasted from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953.
Also, the mayor and businessman visited charitable organizations. Their participants provide assistance to the homeless and perform a significant amount of work. It is thanks to the existence of such organizations that the number of homeless veterans has been significantly reduced, but still there are still many people who need help at present.
